Traveling to Salt Lake this summer?

The 2023 International Trombone Festival will take place on the campus of the University of Utah. Our host is Dr. Donn Schaefer, Professor, Trombone; Brass Area Head; Acting Jazz Area Head.

University of Utah music facilities are located at 1375 Presidents' Cir, Salt Lake City, UT 84112 (Map).

Arriving by air? Book flights to Salt Lake City International Airport (Delta hub): SLC

Then hop the TRAX (Light Rail) to get to the hotel, campus, or many other locations around the city:

Green Line from Airport to Downtown and the Festival Hotel (Airport to Courthouse Stop).

Red Line to ITF or Dorms (Courthouse Stop to Stadium Stop for ITF or to Fort Douglas Stop for Dorms.) 

Note that TRAX stops running at 11:30pm. Festival attendees staying in the dorms will need to take a cab or Uber back to the dorms if attending after-hours jam sessions downtown.

You can also take TRAX to downtown Salt Lake City for many dining options.

DORMS: The ITF has contracted with the University of Utah for a limited number of dorm rooms. Attendees will stay in the Marriott Honors Dorms, which are apartment-like, with common areas and bedrooms. Dorms can be purchased through registration, on a first come-first served basis. Per university policies, dorms are charged by the bed, and the price is the same for both single and double occupancy. If you choose the dorm option, please be advised that you may be placed in a double occupancy room, with a roommate. The ITF will try to honor roommate requests, but cannot guarantee specific room assignments.

Dorms come equipped with two flat sheets, pillow w/case, blanket, one towel, and a small bar of soap. Plan to bring any other necessities.

DORM PRICES: $275.00 for adults; $350.00 for Youth

Price is for one person, in one bed, 5-nights, w/linens; Meal plan not included (Partial stays will not be pro-rated).

MEALS: Meals are not included in the dorm cost, but UU dining halls will be open. Refer to the map here, for more information.

The closest campus dining hall to the music building is the Union Food Court, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the music building (uphill). The dining halls are buffet style; pay a flat rate at the door.  Current rates: Breakfast $9.50; Brunch/lunch/dinner $13.00 (Note that this facility serves food from 10:30am-5:00pm only).

Travel between the dorms and festival events: Walk (23 minutes), or take the TRAX from Fort Douglas Station to the Stadium Station (4 minute ride), and walk 10 min to the music building. Trains run every 15 minutes. Map
